- Dave's Jack-O-Lantern tips
I was born in Ft. Rucker, Alabama on February 12, 1973. I moved to Meridian, Mississippi when I was 5 after being adopted by my father, and lived there until I was 15 at which time I moved to Illinois.I have 2 sisters, 4 half brothers, one sister in law, and 4 brother in laws (one which is married to one of my sisters). My father and mother in-law live here in Oklahoma in the beautiful town of Terlton, and my mother lives in Galena, Illinois since my father's death in 1996.
I was home schooled most of my life, but did attend both Christian and public schools my last 2 years of high school. I had the honor of being part of Glenbard West High School's 1991 Speech Competition State Championship team where I took home an individual event bronze in the state for Radio Speaking.
In 1996 after obtaining my B.A. Degree in Broadcast Communications at Wheaton College, I headed off to Texas. A month before I headed for Texas I had the privilege of singing "God Bless the USA" in the Wheaton, Illinois 4th of July Parade, dressed in my Marine Blues for over 130,000 people including Senator Bob Dole who gave me a "thumbs up" after I was finished - that was an incredible moment. As I sung, other Marines re-enacted the raising of the flag at Iwa Jima.
After completing my military service as a Marine Corps Sergeant in 1999, I pursued my love of radio full time. I ended up in Fayetteville, Arkansas working for several different radio stations. In February of 2001 I moved to Tulsa to work at another Tulsa radio station. Side note, I was the first in 3 generations of boys (I'm David the 3rd) to not go into the field of medicine. Guess it was over-seeing too many surgery videos my dad watched to stay up on the latest techniques!
You can see Nina and I on "Good Day Tulsa", our community calendar segment on Channel 8 (KTUL) on Thursday mornings at 9 a.m. and hear it every Friday morning at 6:45 and 8a.m.
My wife's name is Jennifer and I have 5 children. Morgan my oldest daughter, Wyman my son, Moriah Jane (we call her Janey) another girl, and 2 more boys, Myles Elliot and Quentin Edward.
I love sports both in front of the TV and on the field be it baseball, soccer or football and spend several hours a week in the gym (it helps relieve stress believe me, you should try it!) I also love spending time with my family who amazingly moved to be near our family from Illinois. Being in Illinois so long, I'm a pretty avid Bears fan.E-mail Dave at Dave.Weston@coxradio.com
